How many of you have started using your base for makeup, your foundation with either BB cream or CC cream or some tinted cream as a beginner? Because I was one of them as there is no-one to guide me with the suitable base for my skin. when I have started applying makeup, I was using these tinted creams which only comes in one shade and clearly not my skin shade and my face ended up looking different from my natural skin tone. To avoid this mistake I will make easy for you all by sharing my trial and error experiences and what I’ve learnt over the time.
Things To Keep In Mind While Selecting Your Base For Makeup
- Select the Shade which is your skin-tone so you don’t end up looking someone else. (Been there & lesson learnt!)
- Coverage
There is three types of coverage : light, medium and full.
Start with light to medium coverage foundation according to your requirement. If you have less pigments and dark spot or acne spot and less skin imperfection go for light coverage foundation or if you want to conceal the acne spot or dark spot go for medium coverage.
Always start with light coverage foundation if you are applying everyday. And medium coverage for festive/occasional look.
You can always start with light coverage foundation and build the coverage by applying it more layers.
- Finish
There is Two type of Finish : Matte look and Dewy look
Know your skin type first. If you have oily to normal skin go for matte finish foundation so it did not end up looking too oily once your skin start getting oily again after sometime. And dewy finish is for very dry to normal skin type.
Normal and combination skin type can use both the finish by their preference look.
- Applicator
Generally you can use Brush or Sponge to apply the foundation. But for a beginner, it is easy to use sponge. Sponge absorbs the extra product so it doesn’t get cakey and gives skin like finish. And if you are using brush, make sure you buff it well.
e.l.f sponge is one of my favorite to apply the foundation and concealer. it is super soft and the shape is perfect to apply in the inner corners of eyes.
Beginners’ Foundation
Here is the list to start with. It includes both drugstore and high-end. These are by far the best foundation I can swear by.
1. Maybelline New York Fit Me Matte + Poreless Liquid Foundation
This foundation by Maybelline is one of my go to drugstore foundation. I have been using this for so long and I can say that it is one of the best drugstore foundation. It is light weight liquid foundation and not so matte or dewy and gives that flawless skin like finish. It now comes in 18 shades and best suited for normal to oily skin. It has SPF of 22. It also comes in travel size tube. You can never go wrong with this foundation. choose the shade which match your skin color.
2. L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24HR Matte Cover Foundation
This foundation by L’Oreal Paris is another drugstore foundation. It is best suited for oily to normal skin. It is a beautiful matte finish foundation. Maybelline one gives the light dewy-matte finish while this foundation is matte. and I have been using this since it used to comes in bright pink tube packaging. L’Oreal has changed the packaging and added more shades suitable for Indian skin tone. Now it comes in 17 shades to choose from. All the oily skin type girls out there, this is best suited for you.
3. Clinique Even Better Glow Liquid Foundation Makeup SPF 15
This foundation by Clinique is very light weight liquid foundation best for everyday use. It gives that beautiful dewy/luminous finish which I totally love. It is best suited for normal, combination to dry skin. This foundation has Vitamins C and E which help to create even skin tone. It has Broad spectrum SPF 15, fragrance free, non-streaking, non-acnegenic and sweat and humidity resistant. Clinique claims that this foundation will improve your skin without irritation. It comes in 14 shades and it is in the high-end side.
4. Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation
This foundation by Milani is medium coverage foundation and can be buildable to full coverage. It can be used both as concealer and foundation. This one is for all girls out there who wants to conceal acne spot and dark pigmentation and other skin imperfection. One pump of this foundation is enough and it will gives you flawless skin like finish. This foundation is water resistant and cruelty free. It comes in 10 shades to choose from. It is suited to all skin type and it is a drugstore foundation and best for festive look.
5. M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15
This foundation by m.a.c. is one of the popular and holy grail foundation for so many makeup lovers and makeup artists and it is the classic one. It is light weight liquid foundation and buildable to full coverage. It is long lasting and gives broad spectrum SPF 15, PA++ protection. It is best suited for all skin type and it has wide shade range. it comes in 60+ shades and most of the Indian tone comes under NC tone. It is on the high-end side but little goes long way. It also available in mini size.
