What is more important Bookish Knowledge Or Life Experiences?

Today, I’ve decided to jump into very debatable or I would rather say judgmental topic to discuss, I would love to hear what you think about this too. Write it to me in the comment section. So as you all know that I love to read and book is my best friend but today I am not going to take any side and be neutral to reach out to the conclusion by checking all possibilities, to know what is right and what one needs in life to make it more enriched and genuinely helps one to grow.

So thankfully, I am surrounded by both people, one who likes to read and one who emphasize on experiences. And It’s my personal experience that people who emphasis on the experience think that people who read don’t know about “Real life”! They think themselves superior somehow from the ones who read. And here I am not taking any side but I want to know why these people have this attitude and perception. And there are people who read think that they know everything and advise on everything, why? Has anyone asked for it? This seems like a cold war going on between these two. don’t you ever encounter with this situation!

one thing came to my mind that why can’t we choose both! I mean why not both book knowledge and life experiences? when one has the opportunity to encounter both to grow then why not both? why to limit oneself with one? why to prove one is better medium than other while a person can learn from both?

Let’s talk first about Life Experiences.

Life experiences are more real because one is going through it, one is experiencing it and learning out of it. And it is true, And I could not agree more!

  • sometimes, something we learn only when we experience it rather than reading or knowing about it.
  • Experiencing new places, experiencing new people, experiencing different cultures, experiencing different emotions, experiencing the energy and vibe. These can never be known well by just reading or knowing about it, one has to experience it.
  • And sometimes you need to take spontaneous decision and be ready for the consequences, that too is an experience nobody could teach you.
  • And some reading/ some knowledge is only worth it when we apply it in our life and make it our own experience.
  • Life is unpredictable! and it is a great teacher and life teaches you by experiences.

Now why you need book knowledge in your life when life itself is teaching you so much?

Okay, I talk about myself, from my childhood to today my father always shares so many stories related to someone’s experiences, stories from history, stories about strong personalities, religious stories. All these stories have a lesson to learn from it, and this is wisdom. And at times I need to listen those stories when I am stuck somewhere in life and I am finding my way out. so once I asked him how do you know so much about all this people, he has only one answer “I like to read!” So read vastly and read deeply.

  • We know the basic newton’s law to human psychology to poems to the stories which give wisdom. We always been taught from the book, right!
  • sometimes in life you can not meet every person who can teach you about life so that’s when books come handy. Book gives you the compass in your hand you are looking for to know the direction of your life.
  • Book gives you wisdom, joy, and wings of imagination and creativity.
  • Book gives you other perspectives than just yours, to look at things and situations.

Tell me one thing how would people know about history and all these amazing personalities and their stories, experiences, their teaching after he/she died or after hundreds of years if it’s not written! how would you know about Krishna, Buddha, Ram, Mahavir, Mohammed, Jesus and about their life and their teaching after all these years? How would you get to experience the magic created by Rumi, Shakespeare, Mira Bai, Leo Tolstoy, George Bernad Shaw, J.W.Rowling? How would you know about Hitler, Napoleon. Churchill, Satin? How would you know about the management strategies of successful leaders in the world? All this personalities and their magic are still alive through the book.

It is also about how much exposure you get in life and which enrich your life experiences. More exposure means your life is enriched with life experiences and you know how to tackle situations very well. But what if you don’t get the exposure you need for your growth then learning from others’ experiences can teach you so much. I think book is the way by which one shares their own experiences and learnings, their free will, imagination, their creativity life has taught him/her so other can learn and inspire but only condition is that you need be open not judgmental.

So it is important to have the access of both life experiences and book knowledge, they go hand in hand. we do not need to choose any one. one thing you can do next time is respect the people who is on the other side and try to learn from their learning and share your learning. To able to give and receive on has to be open-minded. One can always learn from own experiences and from others too, just one needs to smart enough to know what to take from others that can enrich his own life.
